Gordon Southern is a British stand-up comedian who has built an unusually international career, performing in more than 30 countries and earning the nickname "the international word clown" for his globe-trotting circuit work. Now based in Adelaide, Australia, he remains a fixture of London's Comedy Store and a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he has taken more than a dozen solo shows since his 1997 debut. His high-energy delivery, sharp observational writing and instinct for quick-witted improvisation have made him a dependable headline act across Europe and Australasia alike.
Southern's international highlights include selling out a 700-seat theatre in Mumbai and headlining Serbia's first ever comedy festival, alongside regular seasons at the Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and New Zealand International Comedy Festival. His show The Longest Year/Waiting for Gordo won a weekly comedy award at the Adelaide Fringe in 2022, following earlier nominations for Best Comedy at Perth's Fringe World and Best International Act at the New Zealand Comedy Festival. On screen and radio, he has appeared on Channel 10's Good News Week, the ABC's Stand and Deliver and Up Late, and the BBC's The 11 O'Clock Show, and he continues to write and perform award-winning solo material.
Southern's ability to win over audiences in unfamiliar countries and cultures makes him an excellent booking for corporate events, festivals and international crowds who need a comedian who can adapt fast and still land the laughs. His warm, upbeat stage presence and years of headline experience make him a safe, energetic choice for club nights and bigger festival stages alike, and a performer who is used to reading a room fast and finding the laugh wherever he is booked.
