Rob Rouse is a Cheshire-born stand-up comedian who traded a career in geography teaching for the comedy circuit within days of qualifying, moving to London to chase stage time instead of staffrooms. Now based in the Peak District, he has spent close to three decades building a reputation as one of British comedy's most compelling storytellers, spinning tall tales and sharp character work into sets that swing between chaotic physical comedy and moments of real warmth. Audiences and fellow comics alike rate him as a performer who thrives on genuine, in-the-room improvisation as much as polished material.
Rouse won Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny? at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1998, an early credential that helped launch a touring and broadcasting career spanning Upstart Crow, 8 Out of 10 Cats, The Friday Night Project, Celebrity Juice and Dave's One Night Stand. He spent several years touring as part of the acclaimed trio Big and Daft before building a solo career that peers such as Greg Davies and Marcus Brigstocke have publicly championed. In 2025 he added the UK Comedy Awards' Comics' Comic and the Yorkshire Comedy Awards' Best Act to his list of honours, alongside his podcast, The Unlikely Weightlifters, co-hosted with Tom Wrigglesworth.
Rouse's mix of storytelling craft and unpredictable energy makes him a reliable draw for club nights, festivals and corporate events that want a comedian who can genuinely surprise a room. He reads an audience quickly and is just as comfortable holding a theatre with a long, winding story as he is bouncing off hecklers, which makes him a dependable, high-energy booking for organisers who want more than a standard club set.
